At first, pro bono requests focused on litigation and/or legal advice for NGOs but over the years, with the increasing legal awareness of non-governmental organizations, it has been transformed. Recently, it involved the preparation of contracts and other legal documents for NGOs; legal research and compliance work for NGOs; as well as the preparation of user guides and providing legal education.
By 2017, the pro bono network provided support to nearly sixty NGOs, about 1250 hours per year, with the help of nearly twenty law firms. The success of the project, which facilitated citizens’ access to legal services, attracted the attention of the Ministry of Justice. The Ministry included pro bono in its strategy document.
Elveris wrote a short article on this subject; attended pro bono meetings abroad; and participated as a PILNET juror that awarded NGOs and law firms each year. She started a similar pro bono award in Turkey.
With her colleagues, Elveris established the Pro Bono Association in February 2022 and now works on the institutionalization of pro bono in Turkey.
